Personal
Statement
I sat staring at the latest muscle magazine and tried to
make sense of the gym, the weights and the instructions. I
was 16 and eager to add muscle to a growing body. The owner
of the gym, Kevin Philion, took the time to sit with me and
talk about my goals and objectives. Over the next while he
continued to mentor and direct my efforts - and inspired me
towards a permanent adoption of fitness in my life.
For over 18 years, I have worked in the fitness industry.
During that time, there have been many changes as research
brings new understandings of human kinetics and wellness.
The one thing that has not changed is the need for our clients
understand body mechanics and exercise performance and to
provide the motivation required to achieve their personal
goals. The journey towards health, whether for strength, increased
energy or weight adjustment, is a lifetime adventure.
A few years ago, I began using technology to manage and automate
my business with the help of my client, Cheri Turner, who
is now my partner in ICTraining. By designing templates for
client programs, collecting a database of movement and exercise
and utilizing a nutritional program, I was able to produce
quality, customized programs in a fraction of the usual time.
Best of all, my programs looked more professional, my practice
was more efficient and I had more time to spend with my clients.
These business tools became the building blocks for ICTraining.
They were big shoes to fill, but Kevin's example of mentoring
and partnership set the focus of my personal training career.
I bring this same sense of partnership to our ICTraining members.

Personal
Statement
Take a solid measure of education, business administration,
technology, e-business strategy - then add a generous helping
of rejuvenation through fitness and wellness. Stir vigorously.
What a great recipe for the creation of ICTraining! Add the
catalyst of two talented, committed and experienced personal
trainers and the tools of ICTraining took shape.
My background is in education and technology. I taught for
3 years before moving to Australia. An opportunity opened
in Sydney to become part of the wild and weird world of technology!
At the time, computers and programming were pioneering stuff
and the personal computer only a futuristic concept. On my
return to Canada, I began a 15-year relationship as a Director
of Technology and Education Coordinator for Canada's largest
law firm. E-business, and the challenge of enabling companies
to develop their Internet presence, lured me to begin my own
company. It was during this time that "fitness"
became more than simply a word in the dictionary.
My involvement in personal training is from the client perspective.
No energy, fifty pounds of extra weight and an embarrassing
body fat ratio finally drove me to a health club. That was
a good decision. A great decision was hiring my personal trainer,
Ian Campbell! I began a journey that dramatically changed
my life - a journey shared by Ian. He coached, challenged,
encouraged, cajoled and delighted in every success along the
way. I gained a deep respect for the complexity of the role
of personal trainers as well as the education, commitment
and talent they bring to their clients.
I make the same commitment back to our personal trainer members.
It is an honour to share my expertise with them. It is also
a privilege to coach, challenge, encourage, cajole and definitely
delight in their business successes!
